If you happen to spot any glaring errors along the way, please note them in the comments and we'll correct the guide accordingly. As such, there may be some minor differences in the text you see. This guide, which should be mostly spoiler-free, was compiled with the help of the walkthrough on and the flowchart from the Steins Gate Wikia.
Note, however, that triggering the flags for the "True" ending may prevent you from seeing some alternative scenes or reading different messages as the game progresses, so you may wish to indulge in additional playthroughs to clean up scenes you missed. The most difficult route to unlock is, unsurprisingly, the "True" ending, as this requires you to take some very specific actions over the course of the story - including several situations where you must choose not to act. It is possible to unlock all the endings in a single playthrough with some strategic saving along the way, though, and that's what this guide is going to focus on. It's worth playing the game through at least once "on impulse" to see which of the endings you get before tackling the other routes. The route you take through the game and the ending you get is determined by your responses to emails you receive, whether you make phone calls when given the opportunity and even whether or not you read incoming messages. Rather than being presented with explicit, binary choices like in other visual novels, your interaction with Steins Gate is entirely diegetic and performed through using Okabe's phone. This largely stems from its core gameplay mechanic: the "Phone Trigger" system.
